District Council 9 Hosts Local High Schools for Annual Apprenticeship Week Event

On November 14th, District Council 9 hosted area high school students for its Annual Apprenticeship Week Event at the DC 9 Training Center in Long Island City.

Local students from Queens Technical High School, Boys and Girls High School, Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design, Stephen T. Mather High School and William E. Grady High School all came out for a discussion on apprenticeship opportunities in the trades and to see the career paths possible to them through the union. A total of 220 students heard from current DC 9 apprentices and members about their personal experiences and toured our state-of-the-art training facility – getting to see first-hand just how #ApprenticeshipWorks.

Recruiting and training the next generation of DC 9 members and leaders is a top priority to move our union forward. Through events like this, we are able to connect with young folks in our community and educate them on the career opportunities that unions provide for people just like them every day.
